2011 BAROSSA VALLEY
We set out to make a richer, more food-oriented Rose that we were seeing around the place in 2010. In this one Pete used a blend of 52% Grenache and 48% Mataro. It’s got some serious mouth fill and “chewiness” and a core of red fruits that we really like.
People report a variety of impressions from “strawberries” to “white pepper” and “cinnamon”. We think it’s a lovely, savoury wine with a clear acidity to finish. Try it with fish and chips or with just about any shellfish. It’s also worth letting the wine warm a little to access more of the leather and spices impressions from the Mataro and then combining it with Asian and lighter Mediterranean dishes.
The light, bright pink colour belies the palate weight and depth of the wine which we believe will continue to develop to 2015.
